Seaside Shenanigans

I'm Draft So this weekend I attend the wonderful Whitstable Oyster Festival with the train gang.

Actually not all of the gang as you know from previous post there are the four of us but one of the gang due to other things could attend which was really a shame as I know a weekend away drinking and mayhem would do her the world of good.

But Hey Ho cant have everything :)

So me and my partner in Crime traveled down on the Train from central London Late afternoon of course we had supplies on the way.

Don't worry this was strictly a girl trip for the first 2 days the little man was safe at home with his dad and was kept well away from anything that could result in years worth of therapy lol

As we were staying at our other friends folks lovely house we had hoped the weather would be nice and we could spend the evening sitting out in their fab Garden no such luck it was tipping it down. The heavens opened so after an hour and a half of nice warm dryness of the train we were out at the station. Then I had the bright idea as it's not far to her house to Walk.  I blame the booze as it was hideous. We got to the house like drowned rats didn't help that Hannah then took forever to open the door.

so we dripped our way in my suitcase was so wet it had seeped into my clothes luckily I had wine in my bag so discovered this as it gave me a great opportunity to hang them out for then next day.

Our hostess made up for her lack of door opening by having a lovely spread laid on.. mmm Bread and Cheese with some nice bottles of wine what could be better for drying out.

It wasn't a too late night, I'd been up since 5am with the little one he does like to wake up with the dawn..

but it was so much fun sitting around chatting and catching up on everything and hearing everyone's news. Definitely if you've got a small child you need just the odd night like this to re-charge and replenish (oh and get a tiny bit tipsy lol).

We finally made it to bed at a reasonable time.

Work up the next day not feeling totally my best I grant you but after an amazing service of Orange Juice and Toast followed by  a nice shower I felt human enough to get dressed.

So glad I hung everything out as poor Sue clothes were still damp (even the undergarments lol :) )

But once we were all up and dressed we ventured out to see what the day had to offer. Thankfully the weather had done a complete u turn and was actually shaping up to be a really pleasant day.

We headed up the wonderful quaint High Street looking for adventure. First stop was this great little sweet come Nic-Nac Shop Sundae Sundae where I needed to pick up a diet coke to get some caffeine into me to even me out.

So cool not only did they serve it in a glass bottle they did an amazing twisty thing with the straw which added to the coolness of it all. I was uber impressed over such a simple thing. It true what they say the little touches do count.

so with a drink clasped in my hands we headed on visiting a lot of the boutique niche shops that makes Whitstable High Street such a rare gem.

We ended up in the Community Center and where like last time they were having a Art fair. All of it was lovely. I really like the TotalPap who made scene out of papier-rmache.

It also included scenes that move.

As well They do prints on card and had someone on hand demonstrating the process. It nice to see local artist at their work.

By the end of the trip we all picked up a bit of art each. Hannah was the first and got her hands on some wonderful painting in the bigger room of the community art center it was an impulse buy. but it was really lucky she did as the second she got it another person expressed an interest.

Fuelled by her success we went in search of food and fun down the beach the first stop was the Whitstable Brewery it was right on beach and was buzzing.

I got some wines in.

And we enjoyed them in front of some fishermens huts.

We continued walking and the end of the beach was a huge farmers, food and drinks market thrown in with the normal seafood and craft waterfront stalls.

There was a van selling Prosecco yum so I had a Kir Royal.

And the girls partook in another tipple.

To add to the party atmosphere there were a lot of live music dotted about the place. “The Shuck” venue which was playing host to a load of bands.

We also stumbled across a rock choir, the poor lead singer dress in the wind kept blowing up with was a bit distracting.

They were good but as there was a few professional about with sound systems you did have to feel a bit sorry for them. Like the poor cousins of the music piece. But hey they got up there they could hold a tune and got us singing so not all bad.

There is nothing nicer than walking about with a drink in your hand with good friends we even managed to make some more.

Our thought soon turned to food if nothing else to soak up some of the booze. There was such a big selection to choice from, Mediterranean, Brazilian, Thai just to name a few. In the end we decided to visit the “Seychelles Kitchen”.

 Hannah had the chicken wrap.

Sue and I decided on there delightfully delectable Goat Curry.

It was the perfect mix of spice an nom. We ate in silence the quietest we’ve been all day lol.

After we devoured our yummy lunches we picked up Hannah huge art piece then headed back to the house for a bit of a rest. (I had to have a couple of waters and a coke).

When we felt rejuvenated it was back to the beach,

yes there was wine.

Can I just point out this was a special trip despite most of the blog I’m not normally that much of a wino but it was a lovely day I was away – Stuff it I don’t need to justify myself (Sorry that the wine talking lol).

We went to see the landing of the Oysters a traditional even in the festival.

They bring the oysters ashore on an old fashion boat.

Then the mayor takes them through town and distributes them to the local public Houses (Bars).

As we needed supplies we headed to the high street to watch the oyster go by.

Also in the parade were dancers.

Giant figures of local Whitstable figures.

Oyster King and Queen plus fishes

 Morris Dancers

The local children also got involved with arts and crafts.

Loved the fish bike

It was finished off by a brass band to dance ourselves back home.

We took some time to get ready.

Before heading out to our pre-booked (a must if you heading to the festival) at the Salt Marsh

When it was booked we thought it was going to be a Burger restaurant pop up, although when we arrived the waitress told us that it wasn’t on and they would be having their usual TAPAS menu.

Well when I say menu it really you get what the chef is cooking for £20 per head (They do take into account any dietary requirements). So over a bottle of wine we dove right in.

We got a lovely meal of Salad:

Lemon and Thyme Chicken with Sautéed potatoes

 Meatball in Tomato Sauce.

Garlic Mushrooms on Toast

 And Green Fillet with Ratatouille

It was all fab, could tell you which I liked best. I’d never had Green Fillet before but will definitely have it a again and the mushroom were so creamy. Glad we all had some though as they were a bit garlicy lol.

Oh I did manage to get some water to wash it down :)

So after we stuffed our faces (there was still a bit left over). We got the bill and made plans to leave….. When we got talking to the people on the table next to us.

Hannah ordered us a bottle of fizz, which I decided I wanted to drink out of a tea cup as they didn’t have any of those I ended up with a coffee mug lol.

Then the shots arrived. Sue had never a Tequila before but I think managed it quite admirably

 Jager was next

OMG that drink is lethal in the melee I’m sure I owe someone for the drinks but for the life of us could work out who owed who for the bill.

So big apologies for anyone I left out of pocket.

After we got moved from the restaurant we had a quick stop in the bar as they had live music on.

The bar was pack so as it was my round we headed to “The New Inn” right next to where we were staying for another bottle of fizz and a diet coke.

It was last ordered so managed the few feet back to the house before turning in at a very reasonable 12.30pm.

The next morning after we woke up, for me the second time, first time was 5.30am with leg cramps owwiee!!

The hostess with the most-ess was still asleep. Sue and I tried in vain to wake her up by shouting down the stairs and getting our mate who could come with to text her demanding she make us tea and toast.

When the pester level reached there height she finally got up. Went to the kitchen to find we had no butter.

To compensate we got to have crisp in bed which is super decedent even for me.

We all managed to get up and showered with the minimal fuss we got out the door to be greeted again by the horrible rain (at least it wasn’t as bad as the Friday). headed down the high street to Tea and Times for a mid-morning snack.

I had a fabulous Bacon, Brie and Tomato sandwich on brown bread.

It was so big and so tasty I could have eaten it all over again.

We got back to the house and waited for our respective partners and the little one to arrive as we all planned to have a lovely lunch together before heading home.

We booked up at the famous Whitstable Oyster Fishery Company it is amazing inside.

Right on the seafront. They have an outside but far too cold and rainy to take advantage of.

Started off with a Bellini purely medicinal

Then for dinner I had wonderful seared Scallops in balsamic Vinegar.

Accompanied by the most amazing chips in the world.

Most of the rest of the table had the fish and chip which was obviously yummy and it was devoured with Ernest.

Mine was great it was nice having the freshness of the scallops and the salad juxtaposed against the deep-fried loveliness of the chips.

They also do this amazing Mojito where instead of adding Soda they add Prosecco.

Eating and catching up with the guys, as us girls meet fairly regularly it nice to hear what the guys have been up to and have a laugh.

The restaurant is fab but not really a place for a little boy so he soon started to get restless and wanted out to explore along the beach.

As the weather was against us it was a lot more subdued than the day before, with most of the stall shut.

Which is a shame as this is one of their biggest trading times of year and to loose all that business due to rain is a bit crap.

Although we did fine the Fizz van again lol.

So we had our last glass in the rain before all heading back to our respective homes for a rest.

Could tell it was a great weekend as on Monday morning managed to go to work with my dress on back to front doh lol
